The third show of the day 2 by Bidass The third show of the day 2 by Bidass
a draw of the 341 squadron "Alsace" (Free french) passing over the coast the 27 august 1943 at 18h20. The group of four plane is lead by the commandant Mouchotte on his NL-L, Clostermann is the second with his NL-B. During this "sweep", they had to escort a 240 B-17s formation over the belgium. Mouchotte will never come back from this mission... They are flying on the Spitfire mkIXc (early series with the Merlin 61) equiped with a 45 gal tank. (This kind of reservoir were not reliable and could stay locked under the aircraft)

It still needs some work on the landscape....

Beautiful! I love your Spitfires, and I find it very cool you're using the Free French as their pilots. Just one question, is that stockings on the girl legs, or shading?( I remember the technique, but not the name).

That was it! I'd love to find it again. I still have Clostermann's Flames in the Sky, but there are so many great books...

Very evocative work! Did Mouchotte write a book? I remember reading a Belgian guy's book who didn't survive the war. And of course, Pierre Clostermann, what a unit it must have been!! With the little girl there it's a real classic!

^^ Yes he wrote his "notebook" (impossible to find in stores !)... He wasn't a great Ace (only three victories in 385 missions) but a good group leader !
